Dwarswerk is an organisation founded with social entrepreneur and blogwriter Gert Rebergen and pioneers the makership of handicapped people with topdesign products. In order to emancipate and socially include impaired people into our society we wanna show that they really can make and produce topline products and not only simple bird-cages.
A design method called Design for Manufacturing With Disabled (DMWD) was developed in line with wellknown Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing titles. Designers are stimulated to take care of the possibilities and impossibilities if more handicapped people should be part of the production line.
Dwarswerk started with the classic bird-cage redesign introducing ToTum, a series of garden objects designed by Mart Rozema and Tim van Leipsig of D’Andrea & Evers. Dwarswerk will surprise you soon with the non-electric and non hightech rear distance indicator for use on a bike. More info on the DMWD site.
